The Cedar Rapids Police Department has arrested a student following a threat.

Cedar Rapids police were called this morning after an online threat was made. The school was "briefly secured" and the student was taken into custody within ten minutes. The student remains in custody with charges pending.

Cedar Rapids Washington Principal Dr. Carlos Grant sent this message to parents following the incident:

This is a message to Washington High School families making you aware of  a situation at school today. Because of a threat made through social media, the school was briefly secured. Law enforcement was immediately contacted and within ten minutes the individual involved was identified and placed under the authority of the police. Classes continued without disruption.

This was the second incident at a Cedar Rapids high school today, following the lockdown of Cedar Rapids Jefferson due to a medical emergency. The lockdown ended mid-morning Friday.
