Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a homicide after a shooting in the city on Saturday night.

First Homicide in Cedar Rapids in 2026

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that at around 5:39 p.m. Saturday, dispatch received a report of a shooting in the 600 block of 2nd Ave. SW. Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and an ambulance, responded and found an 18-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim died from his injuries.

Police Say the Attack Appears to Be Targeted

Authorities say that the attack appears to be targeted, according to the Gazette. Investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses at the scene. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

The Gazette reports that this is the first homicide in Cedar Rapids in 2026. There were four in 2025 and two in 2024.
