The mother of a Cedar Rapids teenager who was the victim of a hit-and-run accident posted a video of the incident this week on Facebook. The driver knocked the teen driver to the ground but proceeded to leave the scene of the accident. What parent wouldn't want justice for their child?
The mom put the video on Facebook in hopes that the driver could be identified. Cedar Rapids Police were unable to get a license plate number from the video. Since the post went up three days ago, it has been shared hundreds of times in an effort to find the driver at fault.
It looks like that post worked wonders. CBS2 reports that Cedar Rapids Police officials now say that have identified, located, and cited the driver involved in the hit-and-run. Police are not releasing the driver's name or any other information at this point. CBS2 reports that the driver will face a mandatory court appearance for the non-scheduled misdemeanor.
CBS2 noted that the family wanted the video released sooner, but CRPD couldn't until they closed the case. Once the case was closed, police gave the family the video. Police officials told CBS2 that they remained in contact with the family during the course of the investigation.
