The Cedar Rapids Police Department has revealed in a media release that they were involved in the arrest of a Wisconsin man who has been a fugitive for the last several months. The man was being sought on an attempted murder charge.

Officers from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, as well as Marshals from the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested 37-year-old Canyon Thixton of Portage, Wisconsin at 8:39 this morning in the 3200 block of Kenrich Drive SW.

Thixton has been charged with Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide following an attack that happened last September in Portage.

According to this morning's media release, police in Portage were called to a violent domestic dispute early in the morning of Friday, September 11, 2020. When officers arrived, they found a woman who had suffered multiple stab wounds.

An investigation by the Portage Police Department determined the woman was asleep when the attack, by "her significant other," started.

During Wednesday morning's arrested in Cedar Rapids, Thixton was found with a gun that authorities believe was stolen by the victim in the September attack.

Thixton is being held at the Linn County Jail, on behalf of the Portage Police Department. The Cedar Rapids Police Department says there is an ongoing investigation into Thixton, and he may face charges locally.
