[UPDATE January 29, 2020 at 9:09 a.m.: per a press release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the suspect in the armed robbery in the parking lot at Kennedy High School on Monday has been identified as Jovon Tyshon Ellis, Jr., age 18.  Ellis was taken into custody at a residence in the 4400 block of White Pine Drive NE on Tuesday evening.  He was subsequently arrested for 1st Degree Robbery and later transferred to the Linn County Jail.]

[ORIGINAL STORY:] According to CBS2, Cedar Rapids Police are investigating an armed robbery in the parking lot at Kennedy High School.

An 18-year-old female student is the victim and was robbed at around 3:34 p.m. Monday. She was approached in the parking lot near her vehicle by a black male, younger in age, who stole her cell phone and fled the scene.

The victim was not hurt. The suspect was described as wearing a "black hoodie, black jeans, a medium-length coat, black boots, and a black baseball cap with a gray bill". 

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is working in conjunction with the Cedar Rapids Community School District to spread the word to staff, students and the public about the incident. They are encouraging students to walk to and from their vehicles in pairs or small groups and to report any suspicious activity as soon as they see it.
