Quick action by the Cedar Rapids Police Department has resulted in the arrest of two people following an armed robbery on the city's northeast side.

According to a media release from Cedar Rapids Police, "a young male suspect entered the store with his face covered," and showed a handgun to a clerk at Point Liquor and Tobacco at 3321 Center Point Road N.E. at around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 30. Surveillance video from the vicinity showed the male suspected of the armed robbery getting into the passenger side of a vehicle. The video also provided Cedar Rapids Police Department investigators with part of the vehicle's license plate, as well as a description of the person driving.

Once they determined who the vehicle was registered to, police investigators found the vehicle at a parking lot for an apartment building in the 1600 block of Park Towne Court NE. During surveillance, investigators saw a person that fit the description of the driver of the get-away vehicle. They then stopped the vehicle and arrested 28-year-old Dekheary V. Steele of Chicago, Illinois. Cedar Rapids Police say Steele admitted to being involved in the robbery. He's been charged with First Degree Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit a Forcible Felony.

During their investigation, Cedar Rapids Police also learned the other suspect was still in the apartment on Park Town Court NE. They then arrested 14-year-old Treyton A. Spies. He also admitted to being part of the robbery, according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department. Spies has been charged with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Forcible Felony, and Carrying Weapons.

Steele is being held at the Linn County Jail and Spies is at the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.
