Amazon Makes It Official, Adding 1,000 Full-Time Jobs in Iowa
We first told you last fall that city officials in Bondurant, Iowa, just northeast of Des Moines, had announced a new 5-story distribution center that was expected to create around 1,000 new jobs. It was widely thought to be for Amazon, and this morning the company confirmed the speculation.
According to a press release from Amazon, the site should open late this year and will create 1,000 new full-time jobs with a minimum wage of $15 per hour. The company also offers what is described as "industry-leading benefits."
Amazon's Vice-President of Global Customer Fulfillment, Alicia Boler Davis says in the statement,
We are delighted to be opening our first Iowa fulfillment center in the city of Bondurant... The site will help us continue to serve customers with great delivery options and we appreciate the strong support from local and state leaders.
The 645,000 square-foot fulfillment center will feature employees working with robots to "pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics, and toys," according to the release.
Amazon announced in November, that a "Last Mile" delivery station would be opening on Heinz Road in Iowa City, at a former Proctor & Gamble site. An opening date has not been announced.
