Waterloo police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run that killed 16-year-old Tayshaun Jenkins of Waterloo Sunday morning.

Waterloo police responded to Courtland Street and Vinton Street around 8:20 Sunday morning, March 10. Police found the body of Tayshaun Jenkins face down on the sidewalk. After talking to witnesses, and the completion of an autopsy, police determined Jenkins was likely the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

According to KWWL, 22-year-old Brandon Gordon of Evansdale went to the Waterloo police station and turned himself in today. He's charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury/fatality accident. Gordon is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on $15,000 cash bond. Waterloo police continue to investigate the case.

Gordon was given a work release from prison 13 months ago. In September of 2014, he was charged with four felonies after shooting an 18-year-old woman multiple times inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a BP gas station at the corner of 42nd St. and Center Point Road N.E. in Cedar Rapids. Authorities said at the time, a male in the vehicle was Gordon's intended target. Gordon, 18 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty to Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury in that case and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He served approximately four years before his release in 2018.
