Visit Iowa’s Amazing Poet Tree in Hanlontown, It’s Like No Other
It was a POET that did or did not know it. I think that is how the rhyme goes, right? Anyway, Iowa has special trees all around the state.
I previously wrote an article about the Hula Hoop tree in Amber, Iowa, a landmark for many that, sadly, is no longer. But, you can read about it and the fond memories people have of visiting that special tree.
What is the POET Tree?
There's another special tree in town that has been drawing lots of attention, and you can see why.
The POET Tree near Hanlontown, Iowa is a regular tree during the day. Shortly after dusk is when it really comes alive, showcasing the 80,000+ lights that bring the tree to life.
According to IowaRoadTrip, the "POET Tree" has become a local legend, and it's all thanks to the amazing folks at the POET Bioprocessing Plant just up the road. They started decorating the tree round about 2012 with about 14,000 lights, and it’s only gotten bigger and brighter since!
Over the years, they added more and more lights, and by the fall of 2020, they went all out—reworking the entire display and adding a jaw-dropping 80,000 lights that stretch all the way to the outer tips of the branches. It’s a must-see holiday masterpiece, and the POET team keeps it glowing year after year!
Where is the POET Tree Located?
The location is IA-9 and Fir Ave, which you can find here on Google Maps.
What Does POET Do?
Since you asked, I'll tell ya what POET does. They have to bring in a few bucks to keep the lights on at the POET Tree. POET's website says they're all about leading the charge in the Renewable Revolution!
For over 30 years, they've been at the forefront of biofuel production, flipping the script with eco-friendly alternatives made from renewable resources. They're all about mixing creativity with common sense to build a better, greener world for everyone.
