A New Czech Village Restaurant Will Officially Open This Week

The wait is finally over - a new Cedar Rapids restaurant that we first heard about back in May is opening its doors this week! Horseshoe & Hide will host its grand opening this Tuesday, July 28th.

Where is it?

Horseshoe & Hide is located in the historic Sykora Bakery building at 73 16th Ave SW in Cedar Rapids. The Czech Village staple was built way back in 1900, and, according to Homegrown Iowan, was originally home to a saloon called the Dew Drop Inn.

In 2023, Sykora Bakery closed for good and the building was sold to Kory and Candy Nanke. It's now home to two different businesses, the first of which opened back in November of 2025. That's LoKey Hat Co, a custom hat shop that also has a location in Bonita Springs, Florida. Horseshoe & Hide is the second and newest addition to the building.

What kind of restaurant is Horseshoe & Hide?

A May 2026 article from Homegrown Iowan describes Horseshoe & Hide as "an upscale saloon where excellent food and bourbon pair together.” The bar & restaurant has not posted an official menu yet, but has posted a few sneak peek photos of dishes on their Facebook page. A comment from the restaurant says that they will post the menu once the eatery officially opens.

In addition to "higher end dining," Horseshoe & Hide also features a whiskey & bourbon bar with signature cocktails, including The Smoke Signal, The Aviator, and The Horseshoe Old Fashioned.

When are they open?

Horseshoe & Hide has held several open house and preview events over the past few months, including during the Houby Days Festival in May, but they are finally ready to officially begin welcoming customers. Horseshoe & Hide opens to the public on Tuesday, July 28th at 4 p.m. A Facebook post from the restaurant reads:

"Come hungry and be among the first to experience our incredible food, great drinks, and unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you’re joining us for dinner, drinks with friends, or just to see what everyone’s talking about, we’ve got a seat waiting for you."
