Do you know an area teacher making a huge impact on the lives of their students? Nominate them for the KHAK Teacher of the Week Award!

This week’s winner is Amy Deiters, a teacher at Prairie Hill Elementary in Cedar Rapids! She was nominated by Jodie Koelker. She wrote:

"Our son has a form of high functioning autism. He has high intelligence and has to have things perfect, which can be trying. He had such bad experiences that getting him to go to school was near impossible the last three years. For the first time, he WANTS to go to school. Ms. Deiters has taught him so much. He finally is making friends and is not bullied. She makes him feel special and loved. She is proactive with his care and has even taken it upon herself to make sure next year Ryan is successful with the teacher he gets. Things she does NOT have to do. Ryan is such a great kid and in previous years no one was able to see that, but she has found that in him. He has changed for the better because of her patience and caring ways. Learning to use words instead of getting frustrated. She understands him, as I suspect she understands and cares about every kid in her room. She will be the teacher Ryan remembers for the rest of his life, as will we. She deserves this so much. As a parent, I cannot even begin to thank her enough for what she has done for our son."

Congratulations to Amy for being our Teacher of the Week! She wins gift cards to Wild Hogs in Walford, Pecks Flower and Garden Shop, and Kathy’s Pies!
