98.1 KHAK First Responder Friday Honors Verna Kuehl

Every Friday morning at 6:30 a.m., 98.1 KHAK's Brain & Courtlin pay tribute to an Eastern Iowa first responder during our 'First Responder Friday' segment! The weekly honoree receives a $25 gift card to Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery in Walford and a $25 gift card to Honor and Respect.

Today we're honoring Verna Kuehl, who was nominated by Brenda Leach and members of the Alburnett Otter Creek Township Fire Department! The entry reads:

"Verna Kuehl - AEMT, EMSI, BLSI

This lady does it all. She's provided decades of service to her community as an EMT of various practice levels, and played the role of instructor, mentor, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Verna has devoted 32 years to the Alburnett Otter Creek Township Fire Department, and continues to serve as EMS Captain and EMS Service Director. She volunteered many years with NE Linn, and later, Center Point Ambulance Service. But, in the past couple of months, Verna has finally been recognized for all of her contributions to the community. She received a Waypoint Services HOPE Award on Thursday March 27th, and then, she was given a Horizons Award presented by the Alburnett Community School District Foundation on Saturday, March 29th. These awards further highlight the depth and devotion of Verna’s community involvement, which extends far beyond our department’s doors.
