Are Red Robin Restaurants in Iowa Closing?
It might be a good time to load up on those bottomless fries while you still can.
The Des Moines Register reports that Red Robin is evaluating around 70 underperforming locations, and could close those restaurants after their current leases expire. Red Robin has 500 locations in the United States and Canada. The Register reports that around 10 to 15 locations are expected to close in 2025. The rest of the closures are expected to happen by 2030.
So why the closures? It isn't the bottomless fries, it's the bottom line that is hurting. The Register reports that Red Robin saw total revenue fall by $55 million while prices rose 7.3% in 2024. The news isn't all bad as sales were up over 3% and customer satisfaction was up over 8% from 2023.
Red Robin has not announced which restaurant locations might be affected. The Register reports that the burger chain has several Iowa locations, including;
- Cedar Rapids - 4625 1st Ave.
- Davenport - 3903 East 53rd Street
- Dubuque - 2775 Northwest Arterial
- Sioux City - 4900 Sergeant Road
- West Des Moines - 6255 Mills Civic Parkway
I've enjoyed many great burgers at the Cedar Rapids Red Robin, and I'm embarrassed to say how many fries I've consumed. Hopefully your favorite Red Robin avoids the chopping block!
