A man attempting to cross the 1900 block of 1st Avenue East in Cedar Rapids Friday evening was struck and killed.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department, firefighters, and Area Ambulance Service all responded to the report of an accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian at 7:16 Friday evening.

When they arrived, police found a 71-year-old man about 20-feet west of Crescent Street on 1st Avenue East. An investigation determined he was attempting to cross from the south side to the north side of 1st Avenue when he was struck by a westbound 2002 Kia Sportage.

The man was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been revealed, pending notification of relatives. The driver of the vehicle was 26-year-old Britney Marx of Marion. She was not injured.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by Marx's vehicle. No charges have been filed, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department continues to investigate the accident.
