Have you ever heard of a green olive and cream cheese sandwich?!

I want to start by saying that this sandwich isn't new. In fact, there are lots of people who remember eating it as a child, especially in the Southern region of the U.S. There's even a recipe that dates back to an American cookbook from 1909 called The Up-to-Date Sandwich Book: 400 Ways to Make a Sandwich! We just so happened to come across a recent article about it from The Takeout and decided to give it a try.

The very simple sandwich requires only three basic ingredients: white bread, cream cheese, and chopped green olives (without the pits). According to the Takeout, it's important that you get the green olives in a jar, NOT in a can, and cutting off the crust is also a good idea. If you want to get a little fancier with it, Southern Living recommends adding some Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and black pepper.

We did the most basic version of the sandwich, substituting the white bread for soft sourdough bread, because it's all I had in my house. Honestly, I don't think having the "correct" bread would've made a difference. The olives were just way too salty for Brain and I to enjoy the sandwich. It was definitely interesting, but nothing either of us would ever eat again.
