The Pennsylvania-based Bon-Ton, Inc. recently released notices that two Eastern Iowa Younkers locations are "at risk" of closing if a new buyer is not found. The notices appear to be just a required formality of a recent bankruptcy filing, and the closings are not said to be imminent at this time.

When it was reported in January that Bon-Ton Stores, owner of the Younkers retail chain, would be closing its Westdale location in Cedar Rapids, many wondered if, and how soon the Lindale store would follow suit.

The Gazette reports that as the parent company of Younkers continues to search for a new buyer after filing for bankruptcy, closures of the Lindale and Coral Ridge Mall stores are possible.

Bon-Ton spokesperson Christine Hojnacki released the following statement in an email:

We are required to provide notification under certain state and federal laws of potential job losses even as we work diligently to complete a sale of the company as a going concern. Bon-Ton is in active discussions with an investor group to acquire the company in a court-supervised sale process

95 jobs at Lindale and 110 at Coral Ridge would be effected if the closings were to happen. The Lindale Mall Younkers store is located at 4444 First Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids and the Coralville store, in Coral Ridge Mall, is located at 1421 Coral Ridge Ave.
