Last Friday the new owners of Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids held a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There were no new stores to celebrate, but the new owners promise that good things are coming.

CBS2 reports that Kohan Retail Investment Group took ownership of Lindale Mall back in March. The new owners say that the mall continues to thrive and had adjusted to a format that outdoor storefronts and other retail options. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance held the ribbon cutting to celebrate the mall's new owners.

In a press release, Alliance President Doug Neumann stated that "the mall  is a staple in our community and we look forward to their continued success and helping them meet their strategic goals for years to come.” Neumann also stated that Lindale Mall remains a valuable community partner. Becky Eckley, the general manager at Lindale Mall, told CBS2 that the new owners have been great and "easy to work with." She added that they have lots of great ideas and initiatives they look forward to bringing to Lindale.

So what possible changes could be coming to Lindale Mall? CBS2 reports that the new owners are offering leasing opportunities to help grow the mall area. One immediate area of concern is the old Younkers storefront. The new owners say they'd like to fill that anchor store as soon as possible. Another building that was included in the sale of Lindale Mall is the old Hy-Vee store along Collins Road. No word on plans for that vacant building.
