Cedar Rapids Department Store Staying Put
It's been part of the city's landscape for decades, and it's not going anywhere.
According to a press release from Frew Development Group, Younkers has signed a lease to stay right where they've been since 1979... at Westdale. Their 100,000 square foot store will continue to be part of southwest Cedar Rapids that is changing so drastically for the better.
Steve Byers, the Executive Vice President of Stores for The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc., parent company for Younkers, had more exciting news for customers of the west-side location. Byers says, "Customers can look forward to some exciting interior upgrades at Younkers that will take place over the next six months, providing an updated store environment for shoppers."
That's not all the good news, though. Lisa Rowe, Vice President Retail/Westdale General Manager reports, "With our existing anchor tenants secured, we will move several junior anchor and specialty retailer deals to completion very soon."
Noticeable changes to Westdale will be visible at the Westdale site in the coming months. The release also notes the re-configuration of the site is wrapping up, with roads and common spaces to be finished this summer.
It's an exciting time for this part of Cedar Rapids and it's great to report of someone staying instead of leaving, as we had to do yesterday.
