Yes, the May 4th holiday that celebrates everything Star Wars was probably thought up by a marketing team hired by George Lucas himself. I don't care. I'm a Star Wars fan. I was born in 1974, so I grew up with the original trilogy. I had the action figures. I was upset my parents never bought me a toy lightsaber. I can name characters and planets from the Star Wars universe. When it comes to the original trilogy, the best film for me is The Empire Strikes Back. The movie was dark and contained one of the biggest secrets in movie history. "I am your father!" Who saw that coming?

I also sat through the prequel trilogy. Ugg. Like most Star Wars fans, I enjoyed some of the prequels, and loathed a lot about them. It was as if Lucas forgot what made the originals great, and got lost in the CGI. That is why I have very high hopes for the next Star Wars movie coming out this December. The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams, who successfully rebooted the Star Trek franchise. Original cast emembers Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fischer are back. Christmas can't get here soon enough!

Even the Iowa Department of Transportation is getting in the spirit of the day! We had numerous listeners call and tell us about the signs up on I-380.

So today I'm going to honor the past and look forward to the future of the Star Wars universe. Grab your lightsabers, and May the 4th be with you!
