If you liked last year's Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball team, you'll love the makeup of this year's squad. The team released their 2016 opening day roster yesterday and 16 of the 25 players on it spent time in Cedar Rapids last season.

The continuity is important, especially on the pitching staff where 10 of the 13 pitchers are returning players. Jake Mauer returns for his fourth season as the manager of the Kernels, who lost in the fifth and deciding game of the Midwest League Championship series last fall.

The Kernels are set to arrive in Cedar Rapids at around 7pm tonight and fans are encouraged to greet them at the ballpark. Tuesday night is the annual 'Meet The Kernels' event. The season opens on Thursday vs. the Quad Cities with first pitch at 6:35 pm!
