It's been a tough Thursday at Last Hope Animal Rescue in Cedar Rapids. The volunteer-led organization, from which we feature animals up for adoption every few weeks on our 'Furry Friday' segment, was broken into this morning. Thankfully, there were no animals harmed or taken during the break-in at the shelter on 16th Ave. SW. However, a donation box was smashed, with all the contents taken.

In a morning Facebook post, Last Hope says the money that was stolen "goes directly to the care of the animals with Last Hope; it pays vet costs, food and medicine bills and more." The post went on to thank the Cedar Rapids Police Department for responding quickly and asked anyone with information on what happened to call the CRPD.

KHAK has worked with Last Hope for years and we hate hearing this news. We know what great work they do and I have firsthand knowledge. I'm personally donating $25 to them, in honor of our cat, Cole (below). We adopted him as a kitten at Last Hope in the summer of 2018. Thank you for the wonderful addition to our four-legged family, Last Hope. I'm sorry that someone incorrectly thought they needed that money more than your animals did.
