Boilermakers Block Iowa From First Big Ten Win

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The Iowa men's basketball team fell behind by 17 points while on the road at Purdue Thursday night. If that sounds familiar, it should. Iowa's 86-70 loss marked the 11th straight Big Ten road game that Iowa has fallen behind by at least 17 points. That happened by halftime last night.

Iowa played Purdue tough for much of the first half, despite playing without Luka Garza on the interior. Iowa trailed 21-17 at the 10-minute mark of the first half. But by halftime, they trailed 52-35. And Iowa was once again bludgeoned in the paint. Purdue had 42 points in the paint. One month ago Michigan State scored 48.

Carsen Edwards led Purdue with 21, below his season average of over 25 per game. Matt Haarms, all 7 foot 3 inches had his way inside with Iowa's starting frontcourt on the bench with foul troubles. Tyler Cook led Iowa with 24 points.

Iowa, who started the week ranked 20th in the coaches poll, fell to 11-3, and 0-3 in Big Ten play.
