It appears that the wait is almost over. It appears that Buc-ee's is finally coming to Iowa!

Buc-ee's Planning an Iowa Location

It's still early, but it looks like a Buc-ee's in Iowa is close to becoming a reality! The Texas-based convenience store chain is said to be planning its first Iowa location near Urbandale, according to KCCI. The 74,000-square-foot store would sit near the intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 35. Right now, the land is currently a bean field.

Buc-ee's Purchasing Land in Iowa

According to KCCI, the land, which sits at the corner of 100th Street and Northpark Drive, is owned by former Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie. He is selling the 20-acre property to Buc-ee's. But the deal is far from done. Buc-ee's is requesting some changes from the city of Urbandale.

What Changes Is Buc-ee's Requesting?

Buc-ee's would like the city of Urbandale to change its comprehensive city plan. KCCI reports that the Urbandale Planning and Zoning Commission has approved the request to amend the city's plan. At least one group of Urbandale residents is voicing opposition to a Buc-ee's in Urbandale.

City officials tell KCCI that there are still commission and city council votes ahead before the project can move forward.

Buc-ee's was founded in 1982 and currently operates 56 mega travel center locations in 13 states.
