With one season of college basetball left, Alvaro Folgueiras is going to strike while the iron is hot. Iowa's March Madness hero is moving on.

Iowa Forward Enters the Transfer Portal

The name Alvaro Folgueiras will live in Iowa basketball history forever. He etched his name into Hawkeye lore with some unbelievable shots during Iowa run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. None bigger than his corner three to upset #1 seedn and defending National Champion Florida.

Hawk Central reports that Folgueiras has announced that he has entered the transfer portal and will play his senior season of college basketball somewhere other than Iowa City. He thanked Hawkeye fans on a social media post.

A Season Of Highs and Lows

During his lone season at Iowa, Folgueiras averaged around 8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, according to Hawk Central. And while he hit some huge shots during the month of March, he was inconsistant for much of the regular season. Folgueiras came off the bench in all but one of his 37 games played. He scored in double digits in three of Iowa's four NCAA Tournament games. He failed to score in Iowa's loss to Illinois that would have put Iowa in the Final Four.

Folgueiras will no doubt sign with another big school and earn a hefty payday for his final college season. Hawkeye fans will hold no grudges. How could they? Not with the wonderful March memories Alvaro gave us.
