Another New License Plate Now Available in Iowa
Iowans now have another choice for their vehicle bumpers.
During the Iowa State Fair in 2017, Iowans voted the 'City and Country Reboot' (below) their favorite out of three choices for new license plates. They're being rolled out to Iowans over a 10-year period so if you haven't gotten yours yet, you're definitely not alone.
Turned out Iowans weren't all that thrilled with the choice, apparently. Starting July 1, 2019, new 'Black Out' plates became available. To say they're popular is an understatement. In the first two months-plus they were available last year more than 19,500 were ordered, according to the Des Moines Register.
Now, Iowa has decided to make one of the plates that were in the running during the 2017 Iowa State Fair available to the public. The plate is called 'Flying Our Colors.'
Its resemblance to Iowa's state flag is obvious.
The new plates are available on the IDOT website. Through June of 2023, proceeds will go to the flood mitigation fund through the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
The new plate is available for a one-time fee of $35 to the Flood Mitigation Fund, with a $10 annual fee for the fund at the time of renewal along with your annual registration renewal fee. If you'd like the plate personalized, the cost is $60 for the initial fee, which includes a $25 plate fee. The annual registration cost is $15, instead of $10, which includes a validation fee of five dollars.
