Our Son Said We HAD to Try This Ames BBQ Spot—He Was Right!
Over the weekend, we went to Ames to celebrate some big birthdays in our family. Chase turned 22, and Carly turned 18 on August 26th. With Chase in Ames at Iowa State, we asked if there was a restaurant that he recommended for the birthday dinner. His reply...Cornbred.
What is Cornbred?
Cornbred Barbecue is a BBQ restaurant located at 526 Main Street in Ames. It is located inside an old historic train depot. In fact, if you sit outside as we did, trains will fly by every now and then! Cornbred is often named the best BBQ in Ames, one of the best in the Midwest! According to their website, they have won over 250 awards, including 35 Grand Championships, 4-time Iowa BBQ Team of the Year, and a 3-Time Iowa BBQ Reserve Champion! I mean, just look at this food!
Our group ordered several appetizers including Pork Belly Brussel Sprouts, Hushpuppies, Cornbread mini-muffins, and Candied Bacon.
For my main dish, I got the smoked turkey with a side of Hallelujah Potatoes and baked beans. I can't begin to tell you how great those beans are! You can check out the full menu HERE.

If you love BBQ food, then you need to get to Cornbred Barbeque in Ames. They are open daily at 11 a.m. and feature a Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
