2020 has been an awful year, but at least we can still eat candy! Halloween is right around the corner, which means studies are being released regarding our favorite and least favorite Halloween candies.

The first study I came across was done by Zippia. Instead of using candy sales to determine their list, they used data from Google. The article says:

"Using Google Trends, we determined which states were the most avid fans of each candy. We examined 50 different popular (and some infamously unpopular) candies, given us a range of candies that puts any grocery store shelf to shame."

Based on the results from Google Trends, Iowa's "favorite" Halloween candy is Starbursts. Surprisingly, Starbursts were the number one pick overall, coming in first place in six total states.

Here's the deal, though. I don't think searching for a type of candy online necessarily means it's your favorite. That's why I like this new study from CandyStore.com a little bit more. To figure out their list of the top Halloween candy in each state, they used 13 years of bulk candy sales data. According to this study, M&M's are the number one Halloween candy, with 67,829 pounds sold.  Reese's Peanut Butter Cups came in second place, and candy corn came in third. Somehow, candy corn came in first place in Iowa last year, which doesn't make ANY sense to me. Candy corn is disgusting!

CandyStore.com also did a survey of 20,000 of its customers to figure out their favorite and least favorite Halloween candies. The survey says that candy corn, peanut butter kisses (those chewy candies in the orange and black wrappers), and circus peanuts are the worst, while Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, M&Ms, and Snickers are the best.
