The Iowa Hawkeyes Final Four Watch Party Has Been Canceled
Needless to say, today is a huge day in the history of Iowa women's basketball. The Final Four gets underway tonight in Dallas. The Iowa Hawkeyes are two wins away from the program's first-ever National Championship. The entire state of Iowa has rallied behind this team and many were looking forward to heading to Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City tonight to watch Iowa take on South Carolina. Sadly, that event will no longer be taking place.
The Iowa women are in the Final Four for the first time in 30 years, and for the first time under head coach Lisa Bluder. Star point guard Caitlin Clark has racked up some impressive awards this week, taking home both the Naismith Player of the Year and the Associated Press Player of the Year awards for women's college basketball. The Hawkeyes have a tough draw tonight in one of the national semi-final games. South Carolina is the undefeated, defending National Champions. They feature last year's POY Aliyah Boston and a smothering defense that will no doubt look to give Caitlin Clark fits.
The Iowa/South Carolina game is a late tip tonight, starting at approximately 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. The University of Iowa was going to open up Carver-Hawkeye Arena tonight for a free watch party, but sadly that event has been canceled. According to a statement from the university, officials say that the watch party is off due to the threat of severe weather in Eastern Iowa this afternoon and this evening. Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes are a possibility. In a press release, school officials say the decision was made to keep fans safe.
Due to the unpredictable timing of possible severe weather and potential storm impact, we felt this was safest decision for our fans and staff. We look forward to hosting everyone for a Watch Party on Sunday.
What a party that would be on Sunday. If Iowa plays that day it would be for a National Championship! So watch the weather this afternoon and then watch Iowa later tonight. LET'S GO HAWKS!
