If you don't follow Canadian women's soccer, it's O.K. They aren't a favorite to win gold at the Paris Summer Olympics. But they have provided one of the first strange storylines in these games.

Canadian team officials were accused of using a drone to spy on the New Zealand team during a practice last week. The two Canadians responsible were sent home for their involvement. Canada's head coach, Bev Priestman, did not coach in the Olympic opener between the two teams as another show of accountability. You can be sure this story is far from over as both FIFA and Canadian Soccer have investigations pending.

Despite the hard feelings, the opening match between Canada and New Zealand was played yesterday. Former Iowa Hawkeye soccer star Chloe Lacasse helped lead a Canadian comeback. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that after trailing 1-0, Lacasse scored the equalizer. Team Canada would go on to win the game 2-1.

The Gazette reports that Lacasse, a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, is playing in her first Olympic games just one summer after making her World Cup debut for Team Canada. Lacasse and her teammates will play host country France in Group A at 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Gazette. The game will be streamed on Peacock.
