The Best Mac & Cheese in the State of Iowa [PHOTOS]

Looks like I'll be taking a little road trip soon!

I recently came across an article from the website Love Food that outlines the best mac & cheese in all 50 states. There were a few different restaurants I had in mind for the honor, but I surprised to find that none of my predictions were correct! According to this particular list, the best mac & cheese in Iowa is over in Des Moines.

The Cheese Bar is located at 2925 Ingersoll and offers all sorts of cheesy menu items. There've got fondue, raclette, cheese boards, and a variety of different grilled cheese sandwiches, but it's the mac & cheese that seems to be the most popular. Love Food says that the World Famous Grilled Cheese at the Cheese Bar is the best in the whole state! The post reads:

"The best mac 'n' cheese in Iowa can be found at Cheese Bar in Des Moines. Chefs add cheese sauce, Gouda, Cheddar and tube pasta to a searing-hot cast iron skillet so it goes crispy on the bottom and they sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for crunch. Customers say it’s easily the best they’ve had."

Until I can make my way over to Des Moines to try The Cheese Bar, I'll have to stick to my favorite mac & cheeses here in Eastern Iowa. My go-to is the one from Edison's Eatery in Cedar Rapids. I've tried a LOT of mac & cheeses in the area, and it's still my number one choice, although Daisy's Garage and Pedaler's Fork also have really good ones, too!
