A 16-year old driver rear-ended a Starmont School District school bus this morning, totaling the teen's vehicle. At the time of the incident, the school bus was transporting 28 students to school. Fortunately, no one on the bus was injured though the students were all evaluated for any injuries by medical staff. The accident happened just before 8 a.m. on Highway 187 about a mile south of Arlington, where Starmont is located.

The teen blamed the sun on the crash

According to a post from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened during the morning bus route when the school bus slowed down because of a vehicle that was broke down on the side of the road. As the bus slowed, a 16-year motorist driving a 1997 Chevy Malibu failed to adjust their speed and collided with the rear of the bus.

The unnamed juvenile blamed stated the sun being in their eyes as the reason they did not see the bus slow down to avoid the crash. While the bus suffered $5,000 worth of damage, the report says the Malibu was "believed to be totaled." There were minor injuries reported to passengers of the Malibu, but it does not appear to be serious.

The accident remains under investigation, no citations were issued. The students were transferred by a different bus to school.

The Starmont School District is located in different portions of Fayette, Clayton, Buchanan, and Delaware counties. The Stormont School District is a K-12 school. The school is roughly 50 minutes northeast of Wateroo.
