When you drop your kids off at a swimming pool for some summer fun, you probably aren't thinking of what might happen if there is a shooting nearby. Both of my young daughters have gone to the Noelridge Park Aquatic Center early on during their summer vacation. Swimmers at Noelridge on Wednesday got more than some fun in the sun.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that at around 4:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Cedar Rapids police received a report of shots fired in the 4000 block of Richmond Drive NE. Officers who arrived at the scene described three males, all minors, that were involved in an altercation that ended in a single gunshot being fired. There were no injuries or property damage and the suspects had fled by the time that police got to the scene.

The Gazette reports that the Noelridge Park pool was around a block away from where the shots were fired. The pool was "secured by staff" and swimmers were taken into safe housing on site until police gave the all-clear. The pool was scheduled to re-open at 6:30 p.m. for normal activities. Police officials say that the incident appears to have been targeted and that there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the Gazette. Anyone with information on the case is urged to come forward and contact Linn County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-272-7463.

Even though the shooting didn't affect the pool directly, we're guessing there were plenty of scared kids and worried parents after yesterday's events.
