One Person Killed in Tuesday Night Crash in Linn County
One person is dead following a one vehicle crash along Highway 30 in Linn County Tuesday night.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Department, a variety of emergency personnel responded to the call of an accident on Highway 30 at Kepler Drive, west of Mt. Vernon, just after 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night.
When they arrived on the scene, emergency personnel found a vehicle that had lost control traveling eastbound on Highway 30. The vehicle, with only the driver inside, entered the south ditch and struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 57-year-old Ted Sorem of Marshalltown, Iowa. The Linn County Sheriff's Department says Sorem was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff's Department, along with Linn County Rescue, Mt. Vernon-Lisbon Police and Ambulance, Mt. Vernon Fire, and Lisbon Fire all responded to the accident scene Tuesday night.
A 16-year-old Jones County teen was killed in a Monday afternoon accident, southeast of Anamosa. The Iowa State Patrol says a pickup driven by Lincoln Gravel of Wyoming, Iowa lost control along County Road E-45. His vehicle struck a utility pole. Gravel was pronounced dead at the scene.
