[UPDATE] Victim in Linn County Accident Has Been Identified
A two-vehicle accident in Linn County near Springville has left one person dead and two others injured.
According to a press release issued by the Linn County Sheriff's Department a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Zachary Twachtmann of Anamosa was southbound Tuesday afternoon on Springville Road. At around 2:35 p.m., Twachtmann lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Springville Road and Schmidt Lane. He swerved into and struck another vehicle that was northbound on Springville Road.
The male occupant of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 46-year-old Dylan Vascik of Springville.
Twachtmann was transported to the Linn County Correctional Facility with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been charged with Failure to Maintain Control, Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense), and Vehicular Homicide.
A passenger in Twachtmann's vehicle, 25-year-old Mackenna Scofield of Anamosa, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Her injuries were also not considered to be life-threatening.
The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Department. Responding units included Linn County Sheriff's deputies, Linn County Sheriff Rescue, Anamosa Police, Jones County Sheriff, Springville Fire, Marion Fire, Anamosa Ambulance, and Area Ambulance.
