Marion Ice Cream Shop Closing Due to Worker Shortage

The shortage of workers at Iowa restaurants continues to be a big issue for businesses and consumers. I tried to grab an early lunch yesterday, but the restaurant I choose told me they weren't opening until 11:30 a.m. due to lack of staff. They lost my business, at least for that Monday. Now, a popular ice cream shop in Marion has announced they are temporarily shutting down due to the fact they simply don't have enough staff.

KCRG reports that the Marion location of Parlor City announced on their Facebook page that they are shutting down for the time being due to a lack of workers. Their post stated;

It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you that we are closing the Marion location until this winter. Due to staffing shortages, we are unable to efficiently operate. We will keep you posted when we are able to reopen. Please continue to visit our Cedar Rapids location.

The Parlor City location in Marion, at 955 29th Avenue offered a $200 bonus back in the spring, but the bonus didn't attract enough workers to keep the location open. The Parlor City location in Cedar Rapids at 1936 42nd Street, will remain open.

Right now, across the state of Iowa, estimates are that 80% of restaurants don't have enough employees to meet their needs, according to QuadCities.com. Along with the staffing shortages, businesses are also facing hardships when it comes to trucking, shipping, and packaging too. So not only are restaurants short on staff, they're also starting to get short on supplies too.
