A Linn County man is headed into the new year $50,000 richer after winning the top prize in an Iowa Lottery game.

The Iowa Lottery stated in a press release that Daniel Sommerfelt of Walker, Iowa won the seventh top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$50,000 Holiday Crossword” scratch game." Sommerfelt purchased his winning ticket at Casey's located at 401 Grant St. in Walker for $5. Now that's a return on investment! The $50,000 Holiday Crossword is a $5 scratch game that features 13 top prizes of $50,000. The overall odds of winning 1 in 3.53.

What's nice about this game is that the non-winning holiday scratch tickets can be entered into the lottery’s "Ho Ho Dough Play it Again" promotion where it can be randomly drawn to win cash prizes. The promotion includes $200,000 in cash prizes and tickets can be entered through Jan. 7 at 8:59 a.m.

Luckily, Sommerfelt isn't going to need to do that as he'll be taking home his prize of $50,000. What a nice way to start 2020. What would you do with $50,000? Let us know in the comments.
