In a Thursday afternoon news release, the Linn County Sheriff's Office has released more details about a weekend hit-and-run along Highway 13 south of Central City.

According to the release, 3-year-old Hunter L. Perez and two other children he is related to were playing in the median just to the south of the intersection. Hunter's family lives nearby. Hunter tried to cross the northbound lanes of Highway 13 to join the other children in the median. Authorities believe at that time he was struck on the passenger side of the vehicle and the driver may not know he/she hit the child.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have been driving a white truck or SUV in that area at the time of Saturday's accident, to contact them.

Hunter Perez is still hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Authorities in Linn County continue to look for answers after a 3-year-old boy was hit along Highway 13 Saturday afternoon, and left with serious injuries.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's Deputies, Sheriff's Rescue, the Central City Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance, and AirCare Ambulance all responded to the report of a child being hit by a vehicle on Highway 13, just south of Scotland Road, south of Central City. The report came in at 4:26 Saturday, August 31 and when emergency personnel arrived, they found Hunter L. Perez lying on the shoulder of the highway. He was taken by AirCare Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals with serious injuries. The vehicle that struck him was no longer at the scene and has not been located.

Anyone who has information about the identity of the driver involved in the accident is asked to call the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at (319) 892-6100. The accident remains under investigation.
