Isaiah Moss Leaving Iowa Basketball Program

The Iowa men's basketball program has been dealt another off-season blow.

Iowa guard Isaiah Moss has requested a transfer from the program. Moss, who started all 35 games during his just-completed redshirt junior season, averaged 9.2 points per game. He was also second on the team in steals, with 32, and fourth in assists, with 62.

According to a statement from Iowa coach Fran McCaffery in a release from the University of Iowa Sports Information Department,

Isaiah has expressed his interest in transferring. Isaiah has been a valuable member of our program the last four years. We appreciate Isaiah’s contributions and wish him good luck in his future endeavors.

Moss, a 6-foot 5-inch guard from Chicago, said in the statement,

I would like to thank my teammates and coaches, and all the fans for being there for me. The last four years have been a great experience.

Moss' departure, along with the transfer of Maishe Dailey and Tyler Cook entering the NBA draft, leaves the 2019-20 team somewhat depleted, especially at the guard spot. Iowa's current roster includes only three players who've seen significant minutes at the guard spot. They are Jordan Bohannon, Connor McCaffery, and Joe Wieskamp. Wieskamp is currently going through the draft process and hasn't yet announced if he'll return to the team. He has until May 29 to make that decision.

Iowa has been looking to shore up the guard position since the season ended. It was announced yesterday that Iowa and Vanderbilt are the two remaining schools being considered by Notre Dame guard D.J. Harvey. Harvey, 6'-6" and 225 pounds, is transferring after a sophomore season at Notre Dame that saw him average 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.
