Iowa wrestler Sam Stoll was involved in an overnight shooting in Iowa City that left him with a gunshot wound.

According to a release from the City of Iowa City, Iowa City police officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at approximately 4:37 Tuesday morning. The release goes on to say the victim was 22-year-old Samuel Paul Stoll, of Iowa City.

An investigation by Iowa City Police determined several people were in a residence on Valley Avenue in Iowa City when a gun was discharged. Stoll was accidentally struck in the knee. His injury is non-life-threatening.

The University of Iowa Sports Information Department released a one-sentence statement late Tuesday morning that read,

We are aware of the situation involving Sam Stoll and are currently gathering additional information at this time.

Stoll, who wrestles heavyweight for the University of Iowa wrestling team, finished fifth at the NCAA Championships earlier this year. The All-American will be a senior this fall. He prepped in Minnesota and ended his high school career with 63-consecutive pins, a national record.

Stoll spent part of his day Monday at City High of Iowa City's wrestling camp. They posted this photo to their Twitter feed early Monday afternoon with the message,

Sam Stoll was our clinician for our camp today!!! Did an excellent job!!!
