Hy-Vee Wants to Hire 10,000 Workers

Hy-Vee is looking for friendly smiles. Thousands of them.

The employee-owned Midwest grocery store chain, based in West Des Moines, has announced they want to hire 10,000 people. The openings aren't just for their retail locations across eight states, but also at the company's distribution centers in both Chariton and Cherokee, Iowa. Hy-Vee says they'll be filling both temporary and permanent positions, both full and part-time.

A Wednesday morning media release from Hy-Vee says the hires are to "meet the evolving needs of its customers who plan to shop differently this holiday season and beyond. New employees are also needed as the company continues to expand and open new stores."

Hy-Vee's release also included the numbers of people they're looking to hire in some of their larger markets. Of those, Hy-Vee expects to hire the most, around 1,500, in the Des Moines area. The complete list is below.

Hy-Vee has more than 275 stores across its eight-state region of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Hy-Vee currently employs more than 84,000 people.
