Collins Aerospace Announces Layoffs
The Des Moines Register reports that the latest round of layoffs at Collins Aerospace will affect 31 employees at its Cedar Rapids location. Employees were notified late last week, and the positions will be eliminated as of November 30th. A post on Iowa's WARN website confirmed the layoffs.
Why Is Collins Making Cuts?
The Register reports that Collins Aerospace issued a statement on the layoffs which stated in part, "To remain responsive to our customers’ evolving needs, Collins Aerospace is taking actions to reduce costs and optimize our organizational structure. This includes a small reduction of positions." The layoffs mark the first job reductions in 2026 for Collins. The Register reports that the company laid off 262 workers in Cedar Rapids and 29 in Decorah in June of 2025.
Collins Aerospace employs well over 7,000 people in Cedar Rapids, making it the city's largest employer. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company produces everything from aircraft engine parts to targeting systems for the military, according to the Register.
