Hawkeyes Look To End Bowl Game Losing Streak
The Iowa Hawkeyes enter today's Pinstripe Bowl (4:15 p.m. ESPN) hoping to end the season on a high note. The season has had plenty of them. A thrilling win at Iowa State. A drubbing of Ohio State at Kinnick. But there have been setbacks too. So a win this afternoon would cap an 8 win season. It would also end another dubious streak.
Iowa has lost 5 straight bowl games. I couldn't believe it either when I first heard it. Really? 5 loses in a row? It's true. It's the longest losing streak in Iowa history.
- 2011 Insight Bowl - 31-14 loss to Oklahoma
- 2014 Outback Bowl- 21-14 loss to LSU
- 2015 Taxslayer Bowl - 45-28 loss to Tennessee
- 2016 Rose Bowl - 45-16 loss to Stanford
- 2017 Outback Bowl - 30-3 loss to Florida
Now you can argue that those losses aren't all horrible. They came against established college football powers. Four of the Five happened on New Year's Day or later bowl games. But a loss is a loss and the bottom line is Iowa Football hasn't ended the year on a winning note in quite a while.
So today's Pinstripe Bowl is more than a bowl game pitting two 7-5 teams against each other. It's the chance to end the season with a 'W', and end the streak. GO HAWKS!
