Growing up with the original Star Wars movies like I did, I had many of the action figures and toys that went along with the series. I had Darth Vader, Luke, Han, Chewie, C-3PO, you name it. But the one toy that I wanted more than any, was a lightsaber. Now, back in the 80's, they weren't as common as they are now. Plus, I just don't think my parents wanted my brother and I beating the crap out of each other. But now that Disney owns Star Wars, we could be closer to a 'real' lightsaber than ever before!

The internet blew up recently due to a video in which Disney Parks chairman Josh D'Amaro was focusing on the reopening of Disneyland in California and other Disney World attractions, according to IGN. But it was at the end of this video, when he held up a newly designed lightsaber, that everyone is remembering. IGN reports that according to press who were at the event, D'Amaro held up the lightsaber, turned it on, and said "it's real." The video then ended. A source at the event noted "the way the light activated from the hilt was similar to how lightsabers activate in the Star Wars films."

Wait, what? Did Disney just invent a real lightsaber? Since the video or even a still photo hasn't been released, the internet is abuzz. One Disney studio leader spoke out saying, "A lot of questions today about whether the lightsaber Josh D'Amaro revealed today was real, or CGI, and whether I'd share photos or videos." He then answered, "Yes it was, is really real, and not.....yet." So what is this new lightsaber? Many think it could be something tied to the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel. But Padawans like me are holding out hope for something more. Something we dreamed of as a child.

Something...real.
