National Beer Day is celebrated April 7th of every year, but this date wasn't just chosen randomly, it actually has historical significance.

If there was any day to treat yourself to a beer, today is it! Today we celebrate National Beer Day in honor of the Cullen–Harrison Act. What's the Cullen-Harrison Act, you ask? Well in short, it was the act signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 that put an end to 13 long years of prohibition. The act was signed on March 22, 1933, but officially went into effect on - you guessed it - April 7th. Today, 83 years later, we honor the occasion with an unofficial national holiday.

Not surprising, we as Americans love our beer. The retail value of the American beer market last year was over $105 BILLION. Last year, a new survey revealed the best-selling beers in the US, and here are the top 10:

  1. Bud Light
  2. Coors Light
  3. Budweiser
  4. Miller Light
  5. Corona Extra
  6. Natural Light
  7. Busch Light
  8. Michelob Ultra
  9. Busch
  10. Heineken

If you're more of a craft beer fan, don't miss out on some of the awesome breweries right here in Iowa, including Lion Bridge and Turner Alley, which are both right here in Cedar Rapids. My favorite beer is actually from an Iowa Brewery - Blonde Fatale from Peace Tree Brewing Company in Knoxville. For a full list of Iowa breweries, click HERE.

So, if you are able, go out and enjoy a beer today in honor of the joyous occasion!

Drink responsibly :)
