Brain & Courtlin’s ‘First Responder Friday’ Honors Mark Becicka

Every Friday morning at 6:30 a.m., Brain & Courtlin pay tribute to an Eastern Iowa first responder during their 'First Responder Friday' segment! The weekly honoree receives a $25 gift card to Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery in Walford and a $25 gift card to Honor and Respect.

Today we're honoring Mark Becicka, who was nominated by Paige Becicka! The entry reads:

"I’d like to nominate our #1 first responder, my husband, Mark. Mark volunteers for Ely Fire, Mt. Vernon/Lisbon Ambulance, and also works part-time for Johnson County Ambulance, all while he also works a full time job, serves on the Ely City Council, and coaches our son's 7U baseball team.

Mark embodies a true first responder. Whether he's helping someone who's having a seizure at a concert, flipping pancakes at our big July 4th pancake breakfast, making endless calls and sending emails to raise money for a new fire engine, answering fire or medical calls in the middle of the night, or stopping on the side of the highway for a car accident, he always is ready to offer a helping hand. He is our hero!"
