Get ready for more changes in Iowa City's Ped Mall!

Just a few weeks ago, we told you that Hazzard County in Cedar Rapids would be opening a brand new location in Iowa City's Ped Mall. The popular Downtown Cedar Rapids bar announced that they had taken over the building at 118 S Dubuque Street and are planning to open this fall. The only problem? That address is already home to a longtime Iowa City staple, Field House.

What's Happening to Field House Iowa City?

We're happy to report that the iconic Field House Bar is moving to a brand new location later this year! The official announcement came in the form of a Facebook post on June 18th. It reads:

"COMING SOON!!!! Get ready for a new experience! Fieldhouse Bar Iowa City is moving to its New Downtown Iowa City location this Fall! Construction is under way! 138 S Clinton Street Iowa City! GO HAWKS! See you soon!!"

How Long Has Field House Been Open?

According to an article from the Daily Iowan, Field House first opened at 111 E. College Street all the way back in 1975. It remained in that building for many years, until it was purchased by new owners in 2003. The article reports that the move to 118 S. Dubuque Street came less than a decade into the new ownership, with General Manager Nick Miller writing:

“We operated at that location for about 8 years before moving the business to Dubuque Street. The main reason for moving was we were unable to come to terms on a new lease.”

Where is the New Field House?

As mentioned above, Field House Iowa City is relocating to 138 S Clinton Street. It's right next to Yotopia, directly across the street from Raising Cane's and Noodles & Company in the Old Capitol Mall. The new location has two stories and is around 6,758 sq. ft., according to the listing on Realtor.com.

When Are the New Bars Set to Open?

We don't have an official opening date for Field House just yet, but the post says that construction is underway and they plan to open this fall.

On the other hand Hazzard County Iowa City DOES have an opening day listed already. It's set to open just in time for the new school year, August 1st. You can read more on the new Hazzard County HERE.
