[UPDATE 10/14/21 12:25 PM] The names of the victims in a Cedar Rapids double-homicide Thursday morning have been released, as well as the name of the person charged in the case.

Cedar Rapids Police say the persons killed were 42-year-old Casey A. Orton and 41-year-old Misty D.S. Slade. A GoFundMe account has been set up for expenses related to their passing.

17-year-old Ethan A. Orton has been charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder. The Gazette says court records show the teenager killed his mom with an axe and stabbed his father because he wanted to "take charge of his life".

The media release from the CRPD states that due to the seriousness of the offenses, charges in the case were filed to adult court. Orton is being held at the Linn County Detention Center.

According to a news release from the CRPD, a call of a suspicious person was received by Cedar Rapids' Joint Communications Center at approximately 2:10 a.m. Thursday morning.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 17-year-old male sitting outside the home. The teen, who was reportedly covered in blood, told police he had killed his parents. Police then found two deceased people inside the home.
