Check Out the Adorable New ‘Catio’ at an Iowa City Animal Shelter
Some Iowa kitties are enjoying some fresh air and sunshine! The Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center has just completed work on a patio for their cats!
Earlier this summer, the Friends of the Animal Center Foundation made a big announcement! The Iowa City nonprofit revealed in their July newsletter that they would be starting construction on a "catio." The newsletter reads:
"This new catio will allow cats to enjoy fresh air, fun smells and exciting sights! It's sure to enrich many lives and make their time at the Animal Center a little more enjoyable while they wait for their forever home."
The catio was gifted to the organization by an anonymous donor last year, but there were some construction issues that they had to get through before work on the catio could begin. We're happy to announce that the catio is now complete thanks to Henley Group Construction, and the kitties at Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center seem to be loving it! Here are some of the photos/videos that have been posted recently on Facebook:
The Friends of the Animal Center Foundation was established back in 1999 to raise money for the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center. Their yearly pledge is $160,000! Stephanie Koehler, the Executive Director of the foundation, explained exactly what all of the donations go to:
"FACF raises funds for animal programs at the Iowa City Animal Center, [and] the top 3 programs are: Medical, Foster/Volunteer, and Life Enhancements. The Catio falls under the Life Enhancement program -creating an enjoyable space for cats who need mental and physical stimulation."
If you want to check out the new catio, the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center at 3910 Napoleon Lane in Iowa City will be hosting a grand opening this Saturday, October 29th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests will be able to enjoy food and beverages, watch the official ribbon cutting, and leave a thank you note for the anonymous donor that made the catio possible!
