Tails are wagging all over town with the news of a new indoor dog park coming later this year to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.

According to Iowa's News Now, this new pooch hangout is scheduled to open this fall, and that's what some cats are calling purr-fect timing.

(The running gag in our house is that kitty-cats don't go outside, and that makes our dog feel just a wee bit superior to his feline sibling. As pet owners, we know you understand.)

The Dogs at the Downs Indoor Park will be open by October, giving pet owners a great new option to help keep pets active during the long winter months. Organizers say the indoor dog park will be held in a "climate-controlled portion of the South Expo Hall on Wednesday nights from October to March."

The folks at Hawkeye Downs will also feature a mini-market on the premises, and the organizers will offer other amenities, along with social distancing guidelines and policies designed to protect everyone.

This reporter spoke to several neighborhood canines and asked what they thought of this breaking news. Along with seeing plenty of wagging tails, we heard several barks of approval and more than one enthusiastic howl in favor of the new park.

The Dogs at the Downs Facebook page lists October 14 as the park's "opening" day and provides details about admission. So if your dog asks you to loan him five "bones" remember that's a small price to pay for a doggy admission ($5) and the best part is, humans are free!
