Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids is preparing for a couple of big events beginning on Saturday.

Each year, Cedar Memorial celebrates Memorial Day with their Avenue of Flags. The event features over 1,500 American flags that were donated by veterans' families. The flags will on display beginning Saturday morning and will remain there through Monday night. Everyone is welcome to come see the beautiful display, and there is even a reward for five attendees! Cedar Memorial's website reads:

"Be sure to complete the card provided to you upon entry. Five cards will be selected to receive a FREE tree that will be delivered and planted (within the greater Cedar Rapids metro area)."

If you would like to participate in the flag placement on Saturday morning, volunteers are welcome at the cemetery beginning at 8 a.m. It typically takes around two to four hours to place the flags, depending on the number of volunteers who show up. They will also need volunteers to remove the flags on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m.

On Monday morning at 11 a.m., Cedar Memorial will host their annual Memorial Day Tribute. The website reads:

"Bring family, friends and neighbors…lawn chairs and blankets…and enjoy patriotic music, rifle volley, and taps. We are honored to have Shane Sawyer, a former Airforce Veteran, as our featured speaker."

As long as the weather cooperates, the tribute will be held outside. If it rains, it will be moved inside to the Chapel of Memories. You can visit the Facebook page HERE for the latest updates.
